Grateful

I think it is always an appropriate time to stop and take a break to write down what you are thankful for.  I was particularly inspired to do this after reading a blog post from Mothers in Medicine.  This guest post author detailed her complicated relationship with her husband, the ongoing battle and threat of divorce and custody of their children... all while she was entering the unpredictable algorithm of the MATCH. The stress that was clearly illustrated through this post made me so thankful for the life that I'm living.

My medical training has had it's share of ups and downs, but overall, I am so thankful for the opportunity to train in medicine and research. Not only am I thankful for this opportunity, but also all of the friends and family that have supported me along the way. My husband, my parents, my brother, my friends - they have all been essential and influential cornerstones of my life.  I cannot begin to express my gratitude.

I also felt surrounded by an overwhelming sense of love while I was putting together the nursery the other day. I washed all of the little clothes, folded them and placed them in the drawers.  It occurred to me that almost everything we were fortunate to have for our new baby is a result of many gifts from friends and family.  Every little outfit has a story, and I am so appreciative for all of the gifts and help we received as we prepare for his arrival.

My (very patient) husband and I have been trying to simplify, and I think we have achieved it with the nursery and in our preparations for the baby.  It has taken all my will power not to read too much or over prepare for his grand debut. It will be what it will be, and it's not particularly in my control. I am enjoying these last few weeks together with my husband, and our terrier, before we are swept away by this glowing boy.

For now, I simply would like to thank all of those who continue to surround our growing family with love. You are the best. We love you back.

Dale waits for his arrival…
