Houghton for MLK Day
After I got my clinical schedule, I found a quick pocket of time in January to head home for MLK day! Going to our cabin for MLK day is becoming an annual tradition to sneak in some snowmobiling. This time was going to be even more adventurous because I was going to bring our 3 year old and our 3 month old! Because I was outnumbered by kids, I asked Lovis to join us on our north woods adventure so she could experience the cold and epic snow of Houghton!
Drew flew home the day before with Lovis and joined my family in Green Bay to start the road trip up north, and I joined them early Saturday morning by plane to Houghton. The baby was a trooper and he had a wonderful flight. We landed into snowy Houghton and made our way to the cabin.
The weekend was short and sweet. We got Drew all dressed up and went snowmobiling around the cabin. He LOVED it. He didn't even put up a fight when we told him he needed to wear a helmet to ride on "Grandpa's bike", which was a surprise to us all. We went riding around the cabin and his helmet was all fogged up by the end of the ride, he couldn't see a thing, but was still loving every second of it.
We had a lazy few days and had to fly out Monday afternoon. We went through some hefty delays trying to get out of Houghton after a storm in Chicago. We ended up having to split up our itineraries Lovis and Drew, and me and the baby temporarily... until some miracle occurred and a single seat opened up for me to grab so we could travel as a family. We finally rolled in 2AM after a long day sitting in the airports. We had only a few diapers left! It was a perfect weekend, and a boost of family energy to keep me going. I love spicing up MS3 year with quick weekend trips - luckily my kids continue to go with the flow and thrive on adventure!
