Labor Day in Houghton 2018

Taking off to Michigan! Solo traveling!

September was filled with trips back to Wisconsin, both planned and unplanned.  This trip we had planned for years in advance - it was our annual weekend to gather with my cousins up north!  The crew was growing too, we now have four little youngsters and three older cousins who were there to show them the ropes of fishing, swimming and boating!  I took the boys with me and travel there was pretty seamless, we got in late Friday night after a bus ride to the airport, and two flights to Houghton.  The kids did great, they could sense that I was helpless, traveling with the two youngsters alone.

The weekend was perfect. We spent time playing in the water, going for walks and rides in the buggies. We kayaked around the lake and took out the paddle boat. We embraced the rain that came in and spent time painting rocks!  It was good, old fashioned fun. Unplugged. Time with family.

I love, love this. Unplugged, quality time with my team.

Despite the perfect quick weekend, travel home was a different situation. Our plane from Houghton was delayed due to air traffic control in Chicago - read: tiny plane from Houghton, doesn't matter much to big Chicago hub.  So we were bumped for initially 3 hours, which ended up being around 7+ hours. I finally called my parents who turned around to come fetch me from the airport.  I was stranded.  There weren't any connecting flights from Chicago to Pittsburgh until the next day, no matter how I pleaded with them. I even took the early flight, just incase this situation were to occur the busily holiday weekend, but - no dice.   You know it's bad when they call you by name over the loud speaker to tell you... yeah, no way your going home today sister. hah!

So, like we Marsh's do, we decide to make the best of it. We went back to the cabin to grab the cribs and let the kids get crazy in the water for a bit, got a bite to eat off the grill and hit the road back to Wisconsin.  The safest bet was going to be to fly out of Appleton the next day. So the kids and I did the ~5 hour road trip south to prepare for travel the next day. Always a travel adventure!  The next day, we made it home safely without any hiccups!

I'm so thankful for the opportunity to fly back home to the cabin; and thankful for a husband who supports my quick weekend trips without blinking an eye. Hopefully we can make it happen next year, we will see!!

See you next year!! (Fingers crossed)
