MD/PhD Ladies Brunch! What a powerful group of double docs!

MD/PhD Ladies Brunch! What a powerful group of double docs!

I like to take advantage of a free weekend, so I decided to fill our weekends with activities!! We had been trying to coordinate a time to do a MD/PhD ladies brunch for ages... after some deliberation we decided to host a quick brunch on Mother's Day! It was awesome, and had a much better turn out that I could have anticipated! Awesome MD/PhD ladies kept coming by and bringing with them amazing food and treats. I whipped up a few egg bakes and some overnight french toast, and everyone else brought fruit, potatoes, coffee, baked goods, croissants, orange juice, and of course a little celebratory champagne! It was a blast to all get together in a casual low key environment. The boys were enjoying the extra hands to hold them as they bounced around the laps of our guests and ate a LOT of fruit. It's great to get together, share common experiences and talk about life in Pittsburgh, as an MD/PhD student and plans for the future - I think these informal gatherings are so important, and hopefully we can repeat the party again soon!

In a similar fashion, Paul had been trying to coordinate a time to get a few of the remaining Pitt Anesthesiology residency graduates together, especially now that the class is multiplying and we all have kids around the same age! They all have different call schedules, trying to get that many practicing physicians in one room was a difficult endeavor, but we did it! We gathered at our place which was relatively central to the group for pizza, salad, cookies and snacks. It was so fun to let the kids run around, bounce in the bounce house and rummage through all the toys in the basement. They had a blast, and so did the adults. Again, with similar training and now careers, its great to gather together to share laughs and experience. We had to get together one last time before Paul's buddy moves to Kansas, so it was perfect timing.

The last, but not least, weekend event included making the trip out to the Pirates Stadium to support the CORE organ donation program of Pittsburgh. I love a good baseball game on a summer night, and when I saw that the proceeds of ticket sales were going to support our local organ donation program, it was a perfect excuse to attend a game! Me, Taylor, Katie, the boys and Lovis and her friend all went to the game. Of course it was down pouring, so we ate some pizza outside the stadium and waited out the rain delay. We also searched around the place for frozen yogurt, which was by far Drew's favorite part of the night. We had a blast, but the rain delay meant there was no way my crew was going to make it to the last inning. After a few good innings we called it a night and went home.

The start to summer has been a good one so far, full of fun, activities and gatherings at our house! I hope summer will continue to be fun filled and productive! Stay posted for updates on my month with the Gastroenterology service, more visitors from Wisconsin, and then my Acting Internship in June, another medical school hurdle!
