Yooper MLK Day!
It has become a bit of a tradition for my parents and I to meet up north in Houghton on MLK day weekend. I don't have much opportunity to snowmobile or enjoy the winter properly living in Pittsburgh, so this 3-day weekend seems to be the perfect opportunity to go play in the white powder snow that the UP has to offer.
This year Paul's parents were able to join us up north. They took the time to drive up from Appleton and experience the winter wonderland. I was so excited for them to see the cabin! The cabin isn't exactly on a map, so I decided to go out to the road and flag them down, I climbed a snowbank and was hoping they would see me. I got a text saying they must have passed me up and soon after a car was pulling up packed with snow gear and baby toys! Haha, that's when Kathy admitted that she had noticed small girl playing in the snow on the side of the road, and was concerned about why someone would be playing on a snowbanks so close to the busy road- haha, and then realized that it had to have been me! haha! We got a good laugh out of that.
We snowmobiled back all of their stuff through the woods. It was such a beautiful day, and the snow was building on the trees. I absolutely love the view of the woods in the winter. It's out of a story book. I was so happy that Drew and I made the journey!
Over the next few days we went snowmobiling and battled the snowstorm that was coming our way. We were snowmobiling in white out conditions! The Yoopers weren't the least bit concerned of predictions for 2-3 feet of snow in 24 hours. The town went on as usual. We went out in the snow to watch a hockey game at Michigan Tech, in the booth from Bob. It was such a great night! Drew was a little sports champion and stayed up to watch the game with us. We also had the Packer playoff game playing on the TV in the box, so it was a sports heaven on earth! I had such a fun night.
I enjoy every minute of being up north, and I am so fortunate to be able to sneak away to spend this time with family. At the end of the day, creating these memories is what matters, and I could not be more thrilled to continue this journey!
